Hello, brave new brand
So I recently rebranded my business because I was feeling stuck.
This new brand is amazing and beautiful. And aligned with my vision for the business I want to build. And the people I want to work with (as opposed to the whatever-you-need, whenever-you-need-it, on-call designer I was early on in my career).
Here’s how I made the switch:
You want your business to look and feel legit. But, after all the hard work you do, the risk is playing it safe with a brand that goes unnoticed, because it never felt like you. A brand that is too broad doesn’t speak to anyone in particular about anything specific.
I took a step back and realized the problems I experienced came from my lack of focus. I wasn’t actively building the business I dreamed about. Yes, work was and still does come my way by word of mouth. And that is a wondrous thing. But because I wasn’t clear on what my expertise was—the work coming in was all over the map. Yes, I could do it all, but I wasn’t building the business I wanted, based on what I’m best at. Instead I was pulled in too many different directions.
It was time to stop playing it safe (taking every job that comes in the door) and put myself out there in a bold, intentional way. To build my business—the one where the work I do is for love, not money. (I mean, I still need to get paid, of course, but that's not why I do it.)
Taking an honest look at what makes your business special and putting yourself into your brand is no small task. It is insanely hard to do this work yourself. Yes, even for branding experts, it's hard to brand oneself (that’s not easy to admit, or accept).
As a solo designer, I don't have another team member to bounce ideas off of. That void made it hard to get a clear perspective on myself. I was constantly second-guessing myself.
So, just like you might hire someone like me to help you design your brand, I hired the team at Braid Creative to help me design mine.
Claim your expertise.
I shared my vision, hopes, dreams & ideas, as well as my visual style with Braid Creative. They put me into my design in a way that I always had a hard time doing. I was hiding before, trying not the be the center of attention, but now my brand is me.
That outside perspective helped me bravely claim my expertise, vision, and style.
